VDAY

i was sitting in church with lucy, eating conversations hearts, and with each heart she would ask what it said. boss loves lucy, caitie loves lucy, nanny loves lucy, grace loves lucy, etc. so she picked one up and told me "this one says darren loves lucy" oh la la! is there anything cuter than a two year old crush?

i love valentines. i love homemade cards, flowers, food, family, declarations of love, candy, sugar covered hearts. i love the love songs, cheesy movies and the amazing amount of effort this day takes. i loved waking up today to the sweet, intoxicating smell of tulips.

i love remembering past valentines. my dad always gave us a single red rose for valentines and as jamie got older he started to give us each a rose too. it was something i always looked forward to. my mom always made us cards and amazing meals with sugar cookies. my first valentines with a boyfriend, as a freshman in high school, he walked into our valentines day assembly with a huge bouquet of flowers and i got nervous so i hurried and sat on the last seat of the row next to all my girlfriends so he couldnt sit by me. the next year the guy i was dating forgot. there have been many versions of this same day over the years and i have loved them all, even when it was celebrated with girlfriends or spent hiding from boyfriends.
